Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong‘s covers band The Coverups have announced another intimate London show for 2025 – find all the details below.
Formed in 2018, the group features Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt along with Green Day touring member Jason White, their audio engineer Chris Dugan, tour manager Bill Schneider (also of Pinhead Gunpowder), and musician Greg Schneider.
The Coverups are renowned for their chaotic shows where they put their spin on tracks by iconic names such as David Bowie and The Rolling Stones.
Today, the band confirmed it will play an intimate show at London’s O2 Islington Academy on Wednesday, January 15 2025.
Pre-sale went live today (December 16), and you can grab tickets here – subject to availability.
Earlier this year Courtney Love joined The Coverups onstage in London, where she delivered a joint performance of Hole‘s ‘Celebrity Skin’.
She also participated in a version of David Bowie‘s classic single ‘Suffragette City’, and again played ‘Surrender’ by Cheap Trick. For that London gig, the band also took on Bryan Adams‘ ‘Summer Of ’69’, The Strokes‘ ‘Last Nite’, The Clash‘s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’.
NME spoke with Green Day at the 2024 BRIT Awards about performing as The Coverups in intimate venues, inviting Courtney Love on stage and potential collaborations.
“I was texting with [Courtney Love] and I said come on out and do a song, and she did,” explained Armstrong. “She did ‘Suffragette City’, she did ‘Surrender’, and we got to do ‘Celebrity Skin’ – the Hole song. But she definitely brought the rock and roll back…you’ll probably be hearing more from her.”
In other Billie Joe Armstrong-related news, the musician was spotted at a Wrexham FC game with actor Channing Tatum.
Armstrong has previously professed his love of lower-league football and made a habit of going to watch games when Green Day were in the UK making their latest album ‘Saviors’.
“I went to a lot of football games: Arsenal, Leyton Orient, Fulham. I went to The Den to see Millwall. That was amazing. Man, if you really want to experience British culture that’s what you should do,” he said last year.
He continued: “Football is like a fucking religion. It’s like being at a big rock concert. You practically need earplugs! I’ve always wanted to check out all the different divisions, not just the world-class teams like Arsenal and Man City.”
