“Bet you didn't know!!!!” guitarist Daron Malakian quips
Eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close's resume apparently stretches far beyond the Hollywood Hills. Before Close presented the Golden Globes award for Best Picture within the drama category, the awards ceremony's host Nikki Glaser introduced Close as “former drummer for System of a Down.” System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian jokingly confirmed the revelation in a social media post Sunday.
“Bet you didn't know!!!!,” Malakian said in an Instagram post. “Bet you didn't know!!!!! Somewhere between our first drummer and John, Glenn Close was tearing shit up on the drums for us!!!!”
Close, according to Malakian, performed as a drummer between bandmates Ontronik “Andy” Khachaturian and John Dolmayan. Malakian's caption also makes references to lyrics to one of Mezmerize's hit tracks, “Violent Pornography.”
Since her apparently secret stint as a member of System of a Down, the Fatal Attraction star's most recent films include The Summer Book, Brotheryes, and The Deliverance.
Other presenters during the 82nd Golden Globes included Andrew Garfield, Anya Taylor-Joy, Auliʻi Cravalho, Nicolas Cage, Rachel Brosnahan, Sarah Paulson, Seth Rogen, Vin Diesel, and Viola Davis. Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist were among the big winners within the film categories of the night, taking home Best Picture in the Musical or Comedy and Drama categories, respectively. The films also led the night with the most nominations this year; Emilia Pérez collecting 10 and The Brutalist picking up seven. Ted Danson also received the Golden Globe's Carol Burnett Award for Career Achievements.
