The revolution is postponed to a later date. Or maybe it's already underway and he's wearing Gucci. On Judgment Day, or the performance at San Siro as part of the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, Ghali published a new piece entitled Enough apparently detached from the controversies that have been affecting him for weeks. As is known, Ghali is the Italian singer who has been most vocal for the Palestinian cause, becoming a sort of musical symbol also thanks to the song presented at Sanremo 2024 My house and to the fact that he was among the first to talk about genocide.
Those who expected a combative declaration, an explicitly political song, a strong stance amplified by the context of the Olympics were taken aback. Over the course of one minute and 59 seconds, Ghali takes up one of the three unreleased songs presented on the Gran Teatro tour where it was accompanied by the writing “Until now I have suffocated my roots, that's enough!” (the three songs should be part of an album that should be released during 2026).
“Enough, enough, free all the maranzas”, sings Ghali in the slogan attack. Instead of leveraging the clamor created by participation in the ceremony to convey a political message at least outside that institutional context, Ghali used the occasion as a marketing lever to launch a single in which, beyond the slogan “free tutti i maranza”, he sings about wealth (“Gucci like a rich Arab”), strength (“I'm alone, but I look like an army”) and independence (“I've never liked the rules”).
With lyrics that at times border on nonsense and an Arabic rap base, Enough it's a piece about roots and redemption. It does not say Free Palestine, but claims and indeed flaunts an identity that many would like to deny.
It is not yet known what will happen this evening, when Ghali will appear at the stadium in a ceremony that will begin at 8pm and which will include, among other things, performances by Mariah Carey (who should also play In the blue painted blue), Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli. Cecilia Bartoli and Lang Lang will also perform. It will be seen live from 7.50pm on Rai 1, RaiNews.it, RaiPlay, Eurosport. The main part will be in San Siro, the athletes' parade will take place in Livigno, there will also be connections in the other venues of these “widespread” Games.
Representatives of the League found it “incredible” that Ghali was present at the opening ceremony, i.e. “a hater of Israel and the centre-right, already the protagonist of embarrassing and vulgar scenes”, Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport and Youth of the Meloni government, assured that on stage “Ghali's thoughts will not be expressed”, the PD and M5S members of the Chamber's Culture Commission spoke of preventive censorship.
In all this great theater yesterday Ghali published a sort of open letter in verse addressed “to everyone” in which he suggests that he will not be able to express his thoughts at San Siro, but that “even my silence makes noise”. He makes it clear that even if he doesn't make grand gestures, his presence is still significant, knowing that it will be used to give the idea of an inclusive show. «I know that I was no longer able to sing the Italian anthem», he writes (Pausini will take care of it this evening). “I know why they asked me to recite a poem about peace, I know that it could contain more than one language, I know that one language, the Arabic one, was too many at the end.”
At this link is the full version of the letter, below Enough in September 2025, at the Rho Fair. Will you bring this song and a similar performance to San Siro?
