Genesis have announced the release of an expanded version of their 1974 album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadwaythe last with Peter Gabriel in the lineup.
The Super Deluxe Edition (4CD + Blu-Ray or 5LP + Blu-Ray, as well as digital obviously) will be released on March 28, 2025 and will contain the original album remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road, a new Dolby Atmos mix made by Bob Mackenzie at Real World Studios with the supervision of Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks, a complete concert recorded on January 24, 1975 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, three unreleased demos from the sessions held at Headley Grange (in digital download version), a book 60 pages with notes by Alexis Petridis.
Unfortunately, the nearly 100-date tour was not officially filmed. “My fault,” Gabriel said a dozen years ago. «I didn't let them do it because, being a huge cinema fan, I expected to do it with equipment that was up to par».
Concept based on the story of Rael, a Puerto Rican boy living in New York, the 1974 double is considered by many to be one of Genesis' best. The best known song is probably The Carpet Crawlerswhich is among other things the piece with which Phil Collins closed the group's last concert in 2022 and which was re-recorded 25 years later as The Carpet Crawlers 1999the group's last recording with Gabriel, Collins, Steve Hackett, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.
