Open up your calendar to schedule a freaky Friday! Disney announced Friday that the Freaky Friday sequel featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, Freakier Fridaywill arrive in theaters on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025.
Disney unveiled the premiere date by sharing a screengrab of Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) holding their faces following their body swap with two younger girls.
The Freakier Friday plot is set to follow Tess and Anna as they trade places with two 14-year-old girls, Harper and Lily. Harper is the daughter of Anna, and Lily is the daughter of Anna's fiancé Eric Davis, a British restaurateur. The film will take place 20 years after the events of the original adaptation.
The Freaky Friday sequel was announced last year, and began production in June. The film's returning cast includes Mark Harmon as Ryan, and Chad Michael Murray as Jake. Newcomers Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Manny Jacinto will join the cast. Jordan Weiss wrote the script for the project, which Nisha Ganatra will direct.
While visiting Andy Cohen's SiriusXM show back in March, Lohan confirmed that a sequel for the iconic 2003 film was being worked on — though she refused to get into details about when it will come. “I don't want to say too much,” Lohan said. “We're both excited! I'm gonna speak for Jamie.”
In a 2023 interview with the New York TimesCurtis revealed that she made a call to Disney right after she completed her press tour for Halloween Endsduring which she was repeatedly asked about the possibility of a Freaky Friday sequel actually happening.
“Something really touched a chord,” she said. “When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there's a movie to be made.'”
The original Freaky Friday was released in 2003, based on a novel by Mary Rodgers.
