From 13 to 21 December Rome lights up with the eighth edition of Fotonica, one of the most important events in the international panorama of Audio Visual Digital Arts, which every year brings to the Capital the most advanced art forms in which the element of light.
Installations with a high visual and sensorial impact, live audio-video performances, electronic music, futuristic video mapping, workshops for all ages, artistic residencies and symposiums: FOTONICA celebrates digital art and audiovisual experimentation by presenting the best world experiences and contributing to the creation of a global network that brings together the most important players in the sector.
After last year's sold out, the Festival produced by Flyer reconfirms the Hungarian Academy located in Rome in via Giulia 1 as an exceptional venue and, new for this edition, moves to the Alessandrino district in a futuristic location of the latest generation: the Chromosphere Dome in via Casilina 1011, an enormous dome, usually used in the astronomical field, which envelops the public with sounds and images coming from every direction, guaranteeing a real and rare immersive experience in 360 degrees.
The flagship of FOTONICA 2024 will be the live audio videos of eight internationally renowned artists who will open and close the Festival: Lydia Yakonowsky (Canada), VJ Spetto (Brazil), Ployz (Germany), Monocolor (Austria), Damiano Simoncini | Levi & Cristina Angeloro (Italy), Kati Katona (Hungary), Milian Mori (Switzerland), Touchy Toy Collective (Italy), Konx-om-Pax (UK) who will alternate on Friday 13th, Saturday 14th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21 December, from 9pm to midnight.

FOTONICA hosts 71 artists from 19 countries (Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States Uniti) for a total of 49 events including Fulldomes, AV Performances, Workshops for adults and children, Artistic Residencies, Light Installations, Symposia, Videomapping, VJ Sets, DJ Sets and Lectures. A total and engaging experience that will project the audience between dystopian futures and ultra-modern cities, from the depths of the sea to the bowels of the earth, to go back into space and witness the birth of supernovas and nebulae, among hypnotic sounds and electronic beats.
From 13 to 21 December, every day from 11am to 5pm, in the Chromosphere Dome there will be a succession of video works dedicated to boys and girls, while again for the little ones on 15 December two workshops are scheduled to stimulate creativity: ” Fulldome for kids” where children will transform their sketches into animated visualizations projected on the dome thanks to digital techniques, and “Recycled paper spheres” with which they will try their hand at decorating of recycled paper balls.
From 5pm onwards the outside of the dome will host the spectacular video mappings of a heavyweight of digital arts such as DeRe (Michigan) and the final works of the artistic residencies and workshops for adults and children curated by Naba, FLxER and Fusolab, while inside the dome, at the same time, video works by some of the most authoritative international artists intended for an adult audience will be projected: Yuri Urano and Manami Sakamoto from Japan, Te-Hsing Lu and Calvin from China Since, from Poland Ari Dykier, from Germany Sergey Prokofyev, from Greece and the United Kingdom Uncharted limbo Collective, and finally from France Milkorova, Sandrine Deumier, François Vautier, Flore and Sébastien Labrunie.
For adults on December 14th it will be possible to participate in the talk “Amplifying Sustainability” curated by Nuva, and in the workshop to follow, with experts, partners and event organizers Chromosphere Fulldome to explore the environmental impact of the performing arts, emphasizing the need to sustainable practices, and the meeting with the partners of the Creative Europe Chromosphere project which will allow you to interact with representatives of European organizations operating in the field of digital arts: Flyer New Media (Italy) Athens Digital Arts Festival (Greece), Photon (Poland), Fonix (Hungary), AADN (France) and Art Mirror (Romania).
