And no, she won’t do ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’
What is ‘Poor Things’? Emma Stone has been applying to be a contestant on Jeopardy! for years and has yet to make the cut. Sure, Ken Jennings would likely welcome her on Celebrity Jeopardy! with open arms, and she could likely pillory the guy from Wings or the other guy who was on The Mindy Project with her intellect, but she told Variety on Wednesday that she wants to compete on the real deal.
“That’s my favorite show,” she said. “That’s my dream. You know, I apply every June. Never got it.”
When the interviewer asked about Celebrity Jeopardy!, she shut him down swiftly. “No, I’m sorry, I don’t want to go on Celebrity Jeopardy!,” she said. “I really want to earn my stripes. I would like to go on real Jeopardy!, but you have to take the test. And you can only take it once a year with your email address, so every June I take the quiz, and they don’t tell you how you did. They just say, ‘We’ll let you know in the next nine to 12 months if you got on the show,’ and guess what? I haven’t gotten on the show. But I watch it every single night, and I mark down how many answers I get right. And I swear I could go on Jeopardy!.”
There’s no real precedent for celebrities going on Jeopardy!, but an old Reddit thread (which Rolling Stone did not verify) suggests that some politicians and one famous improv actor have made it onto the original version of the show in the past. Speaking of improv actors, if all else fails, Stone could just do a Jeopardy! sketch on SNL; maybe Darrell Hammond could anachronistically revive his Sean Connery impression. (The answer we’re looking for is, “What is, ‘Never gonna happen’?”)
