Multidisciplinary artist without a fixed basis, Freya Edmondes aka Elvin Brandhi focuses his creative doing on constantly breaking the rules of language and coded sounds. Fury and chaos are central elements of its expression, developed in alone and in collaborative form (among others, the Villaelvin project, the interdisciplinary duo Bahk with Daniel Blumberg and the one with Nadah El Shazly signed by Pollution Opera) and this attitude can be fully found in “Owst”, eighteenth exit of the Xong Collection series.
The base of the record work was extracted from a performative action held in Raum – space managed by Xing – recorded on ribbon and subsequently manipulated in several sessions by Sound Artist same, until it takes on the shape of two long traces, each of which occupies a side of the vinyl. Words are the main vehicle, improper weapons with violence and without semantic value, declaimed with indissoluble tension on a assembly of rhythms, noisy fragments and environmental echoes stuck without following a linear development.
In “O''w” the disorder reigns, the voice kneaded by the car explodes tirelessly, clashing with equally incongruent sound splinters and generating a spiral noise dulling. It is a magma lops, which invests and overwhelms tirelessly, without offering any fittings, oriented to be disturbing as the cover chosen for the album.
Identical brought expresses “W'sssssst” in a less pyrotechnic form, which offers a partially melodic sound environment, even if deeply oblique. Rhythm and language stumble, slow down, a totally dissonant piano appears, adding the musical language to the destructuring of verbal language and incessantly confirming how ineffective in the intended contemporaneity is expressing itself clearly. A repulsive track, deliberately difficult and impactful.
