The eye is the realm of the real, but it is only from the deep spiritual listening that the dream emerges
With these words, extrapolated from the notes that accompany the album, Elio Martusciello provides the listening coordinates of his new work, directing listening towards an experiential horizon that markedly goes beyond any visual factor. It is sound in its purest form that is the exclusive element through which to build an aural itinerary inspired by the sensorial approach to existence and dedicated to his recently deceased mother.
Although signed in his own name, given the autobiographical significance of the whole, “Akousma-Mother” is a choral construction prepared in collaboration with Luca Venitucci and Fabrizio Spera, i.e. the historian ensemble experimental Ossatura of which Martusciello himself is part. Actively participating in the writing and involved in the execution, the two contribute to defining the shape of the twelve tracks, relying on the synergy developed over thirty years of shared improvisation. Not simple extras, therefore, but essential actors of an electroacoustic dramaturgy in which the entire range of profoundly multifaceted experiences gathered over the course of a now long career converge.
The sequence is structured as a free flow of consciousness in which free-jazz legacies (“Luminescenze”), ambient dilutions (“An imperceptible globe”) and seething concrete plots (“Immaterial subtraction”) follow one another without interruption. It is an alternation of changing landscapes in which a song form strongly indebted to the Battiato of “Fetus” (“Etèrico”) and unconventional rock digressions (Rumori di catastrophes”) fit together, an irregular path of amorphous signals (“Priva di lateral imprints ”) and extemporaneous discussions on the implementation phase (“Critical Intermezzo”). All without ever losing direction, without irreparable caesuras, leaving room for a wide range of suggestions, which combines the interior with the exterior.
