The Colombian star earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist
Ela Taubert is no longer waiting for her love interest to change. On Tuesday, the burgeoning Colombian pop star released her single “¿Por Qué Soy Así?” on which she promises that she’s going to move past — and forget! — an old lover.
“You have no idea how excited I am to share another piece of my heart with you all. I hope you guys feel every single lyric and that we can sing it at the top of our lungs together!” Taubert wrote on Instagram following its release. I love living every song with my besties. You are all my refuge and safe space forever.”
The new single arrived alongside a new video and comes just days after Taubert earned a Latin Grammy nomination in the Best New Artist category. Rolling Stone named her as one of the Latin artists having a “pop girl moment.“
“Right now I’m focused on sharing this genre and sharing my stories from a very honest place,” she told Rolling Stone last month. “My songs like ‘¿Cómo Pasó?’ are there for you in moments when you need your bestie by your side.”
The new song follows a string of singles — and her EP ¿Quién Dijo Que Era Fácil? (Who Said It Was Easy?) — over the year and a half with question-style titles. She dropped “¿Para Qué?” in July, ¿Cómo Pasó?” in February, and ¿Por Qué No Me Fui Antes?” last November.
Taubert has been touring Latin America this year, and is set to perform in Perú, Chile, and Argentina through mid-October. She debuted “¿Por Qué Soy Asi?” during a tour stop in Bogotá last week.
