“Eternal” is the new single from the EP “In Absentia Dei”, his first album Sicilian Rosary aka DueMaripublished in 2024 by La Formica Dischi.
The artist based in Bologna also gives us a new video chapter of his EP defined as a “circular concept”: after the video of the first single “A turntable and then our song…” now we find our protagonist walking around the streets of London, between punk reminiscences and the post-Brexit effect, the descent towards the inner abyss and the total loss of contact with the outside world has now begun and is unstoppable.
After several experiences, various collaborations and the publication of some singles, the Calabrian artist based in Bologna is now ready to make his recording debut with his solo project DueMari, created in October 2023 and which has already led him to take to the stage of theAriston on the occasion of the national finals of Sanremo Rock.
“In absentia Dei” is in fact a circular concept. The EP opens with “Lullaby“, the only song written in the past tense, a “once upon a time …” which immerses you in the context of the story (even if in reality it is chronologically the end of the narrative) the protagonist “falls asleep”. With “A turntable and then our song…” we are in the present, it is the beginning of everything, but it is the end of a relationship. From there an unstoppable domino effect that leads the protagonist further and further towards the abyss; and therefore first”Eternal“, Then “Invisible“, a song that describes his now total lack of contact with the outside world, if not with his current partner. Last and most intimate”The language of bodies (where there is no day)“, a song that closes the narrative circle, thus taking us back to “Ninna nanna” (where everything began, or ended).
DUEMARI
It's difficult to trace Rosario's first musical approach; a photo immortalises him as a newborn with a Chicco keyboard under his fingers; a cohesion destined to last. He began taking piano lessons from a private teacher at a young age, lessons which were immediately interrupted when the family moved from Rende (CZ), the city where his father worked, to Molochio (RC), the birthplace of both parents. Here he studied self-taught in his bedroom, playing by ear the songs he listened to on his CD player and often stealing the keyboard of his uncle, organist of the village parish, who lived across the street. He will soon have a five octave of his own. Subsequently his father enrolled him in the “Musica e Armonia” musical academy. He took part in the “Magna Grecia” piano competition and placed second despite being the youngest pianist in his category. In those same years he began playing in musical projects often made up of members far older than him; among these the “Old no. 70's” with which he won several competitions, or the “Other Voices”, a band with which he signed a recording contract with a Roman label. Record “A way back” with them. The album attracted positive criticism and reviews in notable music magazines such as Rolling Stones, Rockerilla, Rumore etc. Again with them he begins a tour in southern Italy; among the stages, one is the opening concert by Stuart Braithwaite (frontman of Mogwai).
Another band is Gryffindor. The project was born from a student initiative and soon became the most followed band in the Gioia Tauro plain; among the numerous concerts the opening for Sud Sound System. The Gryffindors also arrive at “Casa Sanremo” in 2016.
At the same time he attended the IT institute where the head of the school and the literature teacher sensed in him a talent for writing. They decide to enroll him in a literary competition on the theme of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. He wins the competition and attracts the attention of a journalist from “Il Quotidiano”. The latter in turn presents it to a regional journalistic competition; It also arrives here among the merit awards intended only for the first ten places in the competition, and it is awarded by the President of the Province of Reggio Calabria and the director of “Il Quotidiano” himself.
At the end of his school career he entered the Francesco Cilea conservatory in Reggio Calabria in the classical piano class and subsequently moved to the Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna to remain close to his mother who in the meantime had been called to teach in a Florentine school. It doesn't take him long to settle into the new city. Bologna is a great resource for Rosario. He makes acquaintances with great artists and begins many new collaborations such as the one with Giorgia Galassi (former participant of “Amici”, former backing vocalist of Eros Ramazzotti and current backing vocalist of Laura Pausini), with her he founds the duo “Havana Sex”. Another project is “Ernest Lo”, an artist with whom he performs on various stages: among these the opening concert of Eugenio Bennato, or that of the First of May in Chieti, a concert that Morgan hosts that same evening. Again with “Ernest Lo”, but this time in collaboration and not as a member of the group, he ends up in the Rai studios to record an episode of “E viva il video box”, Fiorello's broadcast.
But Rosario realizes his greatest desire on October 13, 2022 by becoming “DueMari” and coming out under the record label “Formica Dischi” with his first real single and related video clip: Come le altre. The song immediately received a positive response from the public and ended up in various music magazines/blogs. Initially he hides behind an alter ego, that of “Il Signor Mario”, the protagonist of the video clip. In March 2023 he released “Le Ragazze della Mia Age”, his second and, for now, last single. With the latter he decides to get involved for the first time by applying for “Sanremo Rock”. The jury appreciated the song so much that it entered it directly into the Emilia Romagna regional final, sparing it the previous steps. Therefore, DueMari debuts live for the first time and wins, among more than thirty groups/artists, the regional final of Sanremo Rock 2023 in Emilia Romagna, forging ahead and performing for the second time in front of an audience directly on the Ariston stage . Today DueMari is ready to come out with his first EP.
