Axl Rose previously complained about the intrusiveness of drones at Guns N' Roses concerts, while Mike Patton tried to shoot down one that was flying near the Mr. Bungle stage during a concert at a festival in Chile (here is the video taken by the drone).
Something similar happened last night at the Green Day concert at Comerica Park, the Detroit Tigers' baseball stadium. While the band was playing Longviewaccording to the reconstruction made by Billboard consulting “reliable sources who were on site,” a drone approached the stage, convincing security to remove Green Day before they finished playing the song.
In a video posted by a fan, a security guard can be seen running on stage and taking bassist Mike Dirnt away. After a few moments, the other musicians are alerted and follow him, running backstage. A sign appeared on the stage that the concert was on hiatus and that details would follow.
Back on stage after about ten minutes, Green Day finished Longview and Billie Joe Armstrong asked people to put away their smartphones: “Put them out later, let's live in the moment.” After the next Welcome to Paradise the singer again referred to the drone saying that “no asshole is going to stop us.”
After the show, Green Day posted a message on social media about what happened: “Detroit! We are sorry for the delay to tonight's concert, stadium security had us clear the stage to address a potential safety issue. The Detroit Police Department promptly addressed the issue and we were able to continue. Thank you for your understanding.”
