Active since 2020, the Sacrobosco alter ego created by Giacomo Giunchedi (Torakiki) for his solo electronic explorations after the Cadori adventure, arrives at his fifth long-distance test, the second published for his Antinational Noise. A new stage which sees the sound of the Abruzzo musician become more essential and tend to be crepuscular to give shape to personal dream landscapes. Emotional places defined by the alternation of downtempo patterns and ambient digressions, inspired by the corners of Bologna – his adopted city – and the ferment of multicultural London. Frictionless intersections within which are placed samplings of acoustic instruments, excerpts from interviews, field recordings and YouTube snippets reworked to draw immersive hypnagogic drifts.
The first taste of this compositional mechanism is offered by the bewitching pace of “Subway Surfer” with the words of Whitney Houston and fragments of Adele's “Set Fire To The Rain” incorporated within it. A winking start which is followed by an equally pleased “All I Long For”, microhouse built using a sample of a version of “Fly Me To The Moon” found online. The voice of the English capital makes its appearance in the intricate textures of the title track, emerging again among the urban vapors of “Day Eleven”.
From here on, the dancefloor soul softens, leaving room for more crepuscular textures, between guitar frequencies subjected to granular synthesis processes (“Soundtrack4u”) and new soul temptations (“Nobody Nobody”) before closing with the hypnotic “Darksand”, which uncomfortable and manipulates a stretch of “What It Feels Like For A Girl” by Her Majesty Madonna. All held together impeccably, maintaining the recognisability of an increasingly authorial electronic verb. A synthetic environment suitable for dreaming.
