The Calluori brothers remained in 'pause' mode for some time, in particular with their main band, Heimdall, which stopped for a decade and only reappeared on the market last year with the remarkable “Hephaestus”. But for the pair of musicians from Salerno all this wasn't enough, and so we now find them with a new project that brings with it a good dose of interest. In particular, for the presence of a top-level voice like that of Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), as well as for the appearance of Ian Parry (ex Elegy), a singer who has remained in the hearts of many and who has already aroused interest among passionate, given that his uvula hadn't been felt for some time.
If the chosen monicker, Die For My Sins, almost seems to push us towards gothic territories, what we instead find in this “Scream” is a more direct and decidedly less epic metal than Heimdall; a power metal of the German school, immediate, at times modern, and which mainly takes inspiration from Gamma Ray, from the most current Primal Fear and from Helloween themselves, the latter from the central era of their long career, with an eye to works like “Master Of The Rings”.
Listening opens in a rocky way with the title track, but already with “Time” we find many of the references listed above, for a song that really seems to have come out of the first records written by Kai Hansen with his Gamma Rays. For Ralf, these sounds are obviously his cup of tea, and even in the subsequent, empowering but more carefree, “Still Alive”, the German singer gives his best. And the start of “Shades Of Grey”, with its cold and modern keyboards, can only bring to mind the Halloweenian “If I Could Fly”; the connection with the historical song, contained in the album “The Dark Ride”, continues, given that the piece continues on lilting rhythms with dark atmospheres created by the keyboards and the engaging vocal lines of Ian Perry, who finally appears with his scratchy voice and expressive.
Fabio's acoustic guitar accompanies Ralf's uvula during the warm “Perfect Land”, which features intense melodies and explodes on electric guitars and symphonic orchestrations during its second part. Finally, how can we not mention the midtempo “Dark Symphony”, where the bass played by Fabio can hit with determination and Luca Sellitto (Timeless Fairytale, ex Stamina) can place one of his short but talented guitar solos, in one of the most successful compositions within the tracklist, which stands out above all for a hyper-melodic chorus.
In short, Fabio and Nicolas Calluori have a great treat thanks to a project that has received good visibility thanks to the presence of excellent guests, the support of a foreign label and beautiful, sparkling, pleasant and melodic songs, which immediately know how to hit the ground running . We are sure that the adventure with Die For My Sins will not end here and the feeling is that it can also grow in qualitative terms after having broken the ice with this good “Scream”.
