Not exactly prolific, Destruktor come out with their third work in almost thirty years (and nine since their last release, dated 2015), this “Indomitable” which comes with a truly pleasant cover in its own way and a handful of horrendous songs stench of crypt and blasphemy.
Exactly as the artwork would make us think, it seems like we have uncovered a heavy coffin abandoned in some uninhabited lodge, once we press 'play': the macabre beginning of “Speaking With The Dead” takes us to an orgy of speed and wild violence , straight, ferocious, deadly.
In short, death metal of a very classic style, heavy, poisonous, vomiting, with vague black outbursts and less vague thrash reminiscences, with a more European feel of times gone by (German in particular) which resurfaces here and there especially in the riffing.
It is precisely the work on the six strings that makes much of the difference on this work by the Australians: although quite scholastic, in fact, the guitar licks have a certain appeal, they are fat and rough, but revisit some of the stylistic features of the years with a barely hinted melody. 80s and 90s quite functional, with a way of playing that seems to move between the early Destruction and the more down to earth Carcass; if we had to name a band that came to mind we would say Destroyer 666.
Nothing transcendental, however, even if some songs like “Holy Orgy” or the title track, or “Better Off Aborted”, hilarious in its title and with at least some variations (we also include “The Path To Lucifer”) are a pleasure to listen to. ”, with a slowed down central part that at least makes us remember the song).
And yes, because the problem of this album is a straightness that if on the one hand is synonymous with blind fury and indomitable carnage, which is always welcome, on the other hand it makes all eight songs present seem more or less the same thing: we always go at a thousand miles per hour, with an almost constant blast-beat and lots of tupa-tupa; even the riffs, as mentioned quite juicy taken out of context, are however quite basic and repetitive, so we often struggled to understand which song we were listening to. However, as often happens with this kind of ensemble, they must be a blast live.
