Since the 1980s, South America has always been a place with the times in extreme metal. Throughout the continent (which is not a small one), there has always been a response to what was happening not only in the United States, but also in Europe. Although most groups did not reach the popularity achieved by Sepultura, they and Sarcofago dictated the word which was then followed by all the others, each with their own identity.
Speaking of Chile, we cannot fail to mention Death Yell: around since 1987, the quintet from Santiago had immediately made itself recognized for a ferocious black-death not far from the names mentioned above, but also from that of their compatriots Atomic Aggressor. Even though the first releases – such as the famous split with Beherit or the EP “Morbid Rites” – date back to the early 90s, to have a full-length we had to wait until 2017 with “Descent Into Hell”. This new “Demons Of Lust”, also published by Hell's Headbangers Records (a real guarantee for all lovers of these sounds), does not add much compared to what was already said at the beginning of his career, but still proves to be very enjoyable. The songs, although with a considerable number of riffs per track and consequently almost always lacking a classic song form, confirm the quality to which our band has accustomed us since the beginning of their career, with a note of merit for the second track, “The Parish”.
Some episodes perhaps have the flaw of being a little too long – such as, for example, “Seal of Confession”, which expresses in six minutes what could equally have been said in three – while remaining very fluid. The production is also worthy of being mentioned: all the instruments have a crystalline rendering, while maintaining that minimum of dirt that is needed for products of this genre, so as to project the work on a level that can be without a shadow of a doubt recommended to lovers of bands like Mortem, Anal Vomit, Masacre, Mystifier or those we have already mentioned. If you don't have that kind of passion, perhaps “Demons Of Lust” might not make you jump for joy, but it's likely that a listen will entertain you all the same, given that it is undoubtedly a work to be counted among the best old school releases of this 2025.
