Dave Grohl's joke at Welcome to Rockville, the festival held from May 9th to 12th in Dayton Beach, Florida. The headliners on Saturday were the Foo Fighters, playing their last American date (in June and July they will be in Europe, but not in Italy).
At one point, after playing some cover snippets, Grohl pretended to complain that no space is ever given to his skills as a lead guitarist. «You know who never does a fucking solo? I, damn it, never have a solo! So since this is the last night of the tour, I'm going to do a fucking alone. What are you saying? Maybe you're thinking, “That guy can't do solos”? Do you want to see me do a solo now?”.
At that point he started playing Eruption, the Van Halen instrumental which, with other notable pieces, made Eddie Van Halen's style famous. To celebrate the feat he raised his hands as the solo continued. The screen behind him revealed the trick: it was actually Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, who was playing.
Here is the video of the shredder with other people's fingers and what happened immediately after from a different angle, including the dedication of My Hero to Van Halen, father and son:
Pulled a prank on the @RockvilleFest crowd with Dave and the Foos last night. Good times. Stoked to rock some shows with them this summer! 🙌
