The Steven Soderbergh-directed spy drama, which also stars Regé-Jean Page and Marisa Abela, arrives March 14
Black Bag reveals the consequences of mixing work and pleasure. In the Black Bag trailer, released Tuesday, Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender star as happily married intelligence agents. All seems well for the lovebirds, until an intelligence breach challenges their marriage, leaving Fassbender’s George to decide between love or the nation’s security. The film releases March 14.
“My devotion to my marriage is my emotional weakness,” Blanchett’s Kathryn says in the trailer.
Steven Soderbergh directed the spy drama, while David Koepp, who worked on Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible, wrote the screenplay. In Black Bag, Blanchett stars as intelligence agent Kathryn, who is suspected of betraying the nation and leaking private information. Fassbender stars as George Woodhouse, and faces the ultimate test. Soderbergh and Blanchett previously collaborated in The Good German (2006) and Ocean’s 8 (2018).
In an interview with Rolling Stone last year, Soderbergh discussed his web series, Command Z, and what he’s learned while developing and releasing a new project.
“I learned things making the Ocean’s movies that I apply to the smaller, more experimental films, and there are things I learned on the smaller, more experimental films that I then apply to the larger films,” Soderbergh told Rolling Stone. “They feed each other. But more than anything, my goal is to make something that annihilates the thing that I just did. I’m looking for an experience that is in opposition to what I just made.”
Other Black Bag cast members include Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Marisa Abela (Industry), Naomie Harris (The Man Who Fell to Earch), Tom Burke (C.B. Strike), and Pierce Brosnan (The Son).
