The shows will take place on 27, 28 and 29 September and 1, 2 and 3 October and will be a preview worldwide and unique shows in continental Europe. Inside the Circus Maximus, an arena built specifically for the occasion will be set up with all seats. Virgin Radio Italy will carry out an exclusive pre-sale which will give fans the opportunity to purchase their tickets in advance.
“Luck And Strange” will be released on digital, vinyl and CD. It contains eight new songs, as well as a reworking of “Between Two Points” by the Montgolfier Brothers, and features graphics and photography by celebrated artist Anton Corbijn. The album cover image, photographed and designed by Anton Corbijn, is inspired by a lyric written by Charlie Gilmour for the album's final song “Scattered”. Recorded over five months in Brighton and London, it was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, a British producer who boasts collaborations with artists of the caliber of Marika Hackman or ALT-J. The majority of the album's lyrics were composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour's co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years.
“'Luck And Strange' deals with life by focusing on aging – explained Polly Samson – the theme of mortality is a constant. Working with Charlie Andrew was liberating, he wants to know what the songs are about and he wants everyone who plays them have clear ideas about the lyrics and that their way of playing depends on them. I particularly loved it for this reason.”
“Polly and I have been writing together for over thirty years – says Gilmour – The live streams of 'Von Trapped' showed the fantastic fusion between Romany's voice and the sound of the harp. This led us to feel able to discard part of the past that I was tied to and to be able to eliminate all the rules to do whatever I wanted to do. It was a great joy.”
“Luck And Strange” features David Gilmour with Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert (bass), Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao (drums), Rob Gentry and Roger Eno (keyboards) and Will Gardner (choir and string arrangements ). The title track also features the late Rick Wright, Pink Floyd's keyboard player, who passed away in 2008. It is a part recorded in 2007, during a session in a barn at the Gilmour house.
