Always an angel, never a God — except when you receive multiple award nominations.
Boygenius, the indie supergroup of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, earned six nominations for the 2024 Grammys, which will take place on Feb. 5 at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
Their full-length debut, the record, received nods for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album, while their excellent “Not Strong Enough” could possibly take home Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song. In addition, “Cool About It” earned a nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance.
Bridgers also received a seventh nomination, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, for her appearance on SZA’s “Ghost in the Machine.” This marks 11 Grammy nominations in Bridgers’ career, as Punisher earned her four nominations back in 2021: Best New Artist, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song (“Kyoto”). It marks the first-ever Grammy nominations for Baker and Dacus.
The band, who recently brought Dave Grohl onstage at the Hollywood Bowl to assist in some drumming, released their full-length debut, the record, in March. They followed up the release with the rest in September, an EP containing four leftover tracks: “Black Hole,” “Afraid of Heights,” “Voyager,” and “Powers.” The band is slated to perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend alongside host Timothée Chalamet.
In January, Boygenius gave an exclusive interview to Rolling Stone in a cover story that featured them replicating Nirvana’s legendary 1994 cover. “Lifting each other up [is] how we create,” Bridgers told us. “We all get to be the lead. We all get the high of each other being in the front, which is so sick and has been the ethos of this band since day one.”
