Jack Antonoff’s band, Bleachers, has returned with another new song, “Alma Mater.” It’s the second single from the group’s just-announced new album, Bleachers, which is out March 8 via Dirty Hit. Listen to the track, featuring vocals from longtime Antonoff collaborator Lana Del Rey, below.
Antonoff told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 that he wrote the song with Del Rey, who encouraged him to do something with it. “Sometimes you want people to feel like something almost sounds unattainable, and sometimes you want people to feel like they’re just in a room with you,” Antonoff said. “And so if I want it to feel like I’m just talking to someone or we’re in a room together, then I like to add things like random scratch takes or noises that remind you that you’re not in a heightened environment. … A song like this, I want it to be like I’m sitting on your basement floor with you.”
Bleachers released the first Bleachers offering, “Modern Girl,” last month. They also played the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The new album will follow 2021’s Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night.
Once again, Antonoff is in the running for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, at the upcoming Grammy Awards. He’s gotten nominated for the award at the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Grammy Awards, taking home the trophy at the latter two ceremonies.
