“Thanks for your voice and strength.” These are some of the words that Beyoncé dedicated to Angie Stone, the new American singer who last Friday lost her life in a car accident. He was 63 years old.
Stone was on tour when, during a late night transfer, a truck hit the van on which she and the band were traveling. Stone was the only one not to survive the accident.
Beyoncé thus posted a small message on its site to pay homage to the singer: «Thanks for your voice, your strength and your art. Your incredible inheritance will live forever ».
Angie Stone co-founded the sequences in 1979 together with Cheryl “The Pearl” Cook and Gwendolyn “Blondy” Chisolm. After becoming the first female hip-hop group to sign with the Sugar Hill Records, the trio published its first single “Funk You Up”, a song that was later interpolated by Dr. Dre (in “Keep Their Heads Ringin '”) and influenced (to the point of being mentioned in court) “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Stone has been nominated three times to the Grammy without ever being able to win one.
