On 21 June 1984, Bologna was invaded by over 160 thousand fans who came to attend what turned out to be an unprecedented musical event for the time: the concert to celebrate twenty years of Francesco Guccini's musical activity. On stage in Piazza Maggiore, celebrating with him, great friends and colleagues such as Lucio Dalla, Paolo Conte, Nomadi with Augusto Daolio, Pierangelo Bertoli and many others took turns.
The title “Between the Via Emilia and the West” comes from a verse of the song “Piccola città” in which Guccini talks about his hometown of Modena. Francesco Guccini said: “The Via Emilia cut Modena in two; the road where I lived, on one side, intersected with it. On the other side there were already the wide fields of the suburbs. They were a bit like our “West “domestic: it was enough to take a walk, or cross a road, and there were already Indians and cowboys, horses and arrows; there was, in short, the Adventure, translated into “Po” from films and comics. Then the way Emilia continued to cut Modena in two, but the West had a different face, and the “American myth”, that of many generations besides mine, spoke a different language, that of rock, of record covers, of James Dean's face in Youth burned, of the books that others just before us had discovered and turned into Italian. But the two references always existed, one foot here and one there, the dream (or rather, the utopia) and the reality…”.
