The disappearance of Val Kilmer (cult actor, protagonist of many pop films), was painful news for many, especially for those who were teenager between the 80s and 90s, and remember him in the guise of Iceman (Top gun1996) Jim Morrison (The Doors1991), Doc Holliday (Tombstone1993), Simon Templar (The Saint1997), but above all as unforgettable Batman in Batman Forever1995.
Just thinking back to that specific piece of the long DC Comics saga – one of the best for the writer (but perhaps it is only nostalgia for my 12 years) – and retracing some iconic scenes of the film directed by Joel Schumacher, it is impossible not to dwell on its soundtrack in some ways legendary, which boasts inside names of the caliber of U2, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack Ft. Tracey Thorn, Seal, Mazzy Star, The Offspring, Nick Cave, Michael Hutchence And The Flaming Lips.
More generally, it is possible to regret a mythical time in which we went to the cinema to see the classic colossal for families, and we found ourselves more or less unconsciously enjoying soundtracks that are anything but marginal or accessory, in which important artists participated with songs destined to remain in the collective memory. Batman Forever, From this point of view, it is a perfect example of how, within a blockbuster project, music was considered a real vehicle for promoting the film, as well as amplification of the emotions of the spectators. Waiting for the securities to discover the latest track of the soundtrack was a ritual for many grass cinephiles. Today, listening to these songs means taking a dip in an era in which cinema and pop (but also rock, hip hop, R&B), were intertwined indissolublely.
And therefore, for those who have a few memory holes, here are the 14 songs that make up what is perhaps one of the richest soundtracks of the 90s, which has helped to make Batman Forever Not a simple film, but an authentic audiovisual experience.
