With his third album, the DJ e producer Alejandro Guillán Castaño aka Baiuca gives a twist to his electronic revitalization of Galician folklore, stripping his formula of the witchy charm of the previous “Solpor” and “Embruxo” to push it onto much more brazenly dance terrain.
“Barullo” is an explosion of house rhythms and cymbal games, with components stutter which give melodic impetus to the album from the initial “Navajitas”, and in “Alentejo” they are paired with a breakbeats providing the engine a tour de force lively and sparkling.
The triplet rhythms, children of tradition (“Ribeirana”, “Sementei”) and an enthralling episode drum 'n' bass in “MonteViso” they give a measure of the breadth of the spectrum of this convincing experiment, which combines bold reinterpretations with a direct invitation to the dance floor.
