Nearly 15 years ago, Mariah Carey took aim at an extensively gossipy person spreading her business around. On “Obsessed,” the first single from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, opens with the songstress chuckling before asking: “Why are you so obsessed with me?” It’s the same question Ariana Grande tried to get to the bottom of on her latest single, “Yes, And,” where she ponders: “Why do you care so much whose — I ride? Why?” Naturally, Grande sought out Carey — an expert on dodging obsessed spectators — for the song’s official remix.
“I’m so done with sharing this hypocrisy with you,” sings Carey on the remix. “Baby, you have been rejected Go back, no more pretending that.” The two join together for the uplifting chorus, crooning: “Boy, come on, put your lipstick on/No one can tell you nothing/Come on and walk this way through the fire/Don’t care what’s on their mind.”
Grande and Carey announced the “Yes, And” remix earlier this week via Instagram. “I cannot believe the words I am typing …… Yes, And? Remix feat the one and only, queen of my heart and lifelong inspiration @mariahcarey is out this friday,” Grande wrote. “There truly are no words that suffice. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this dream come true and for sprinkling your brilliance and magic on my little song @mariahcarey. It means more to me than i could ever possibly articulate and i cannot wait for everyone to hear this! I love you eternally!”
On an Instagram story, Carey added: “Darling angel, I am so effing excited to be joining you on the yes, and? remix!! This is such a magical moment!!.”
“Yes, And?” is the first and — according to Grande — the only single to be released ahead of her forthcoming studio album Eternal Sunshine, out March 8. “I wanted to say … as hard as it is to resist the urge to share another song or single with you all ASAP, I would really love for you to experience the album in full this time,” she told fans earlier this month.
Eternal Sunshine marks Grande’s first album release since Positions was released in 2020. The singer has quietly teased the record over the past few months with videos and photos of herself in the studio with Max Martin. She first worked with the master songwriter and producer on her sophomore album My Everything, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary later this year.
