Arcade Fire's Win Butler and Régine Chassagne have split. They announced it with a short message on the band's Instagram profile. «After a long and happy marriage, Win and Régine have decided to separate. However, they do not stop loving, admiring and supporting each other as they raise their son together.”
The separation after 22 years of marriage, the statement says, does not mean the end of either the charitable projects they have or the band. They will continue the work of the Kanpe foundation in Haiti and their creative bond will continue “just like Arcade Fire”. The message ends with the promise to see each other again on tour, even if at the moment there are no dates set.
In 2022, Chassagne had publicly supported her husband accused by five women of sexual abuse and harassment: «I know what he is like and I know that he has never touched and would never touch a woman without her consent. He didn't, I'm sure of that. He lost his way, but found it again. I love him and I love the life we built together.”
Butler had written that «Régine waited patiently watching me suffer and tried to help me as best she could. I know it must have been difficult to see that the person he loves was lost.”
