As per tradition, this year too, the Bowie Bash – the longest-running global gathering dedicated to David Bowie – will have a highlight of undoubted importance: it is the live performance of Andrea Chimenti who, for the occasion, will grant the only Italian date of his “Andrea Chimenti plays David Bowie”, Saturday 4 January 2025, at the Vinile di Rosà nightclub, in the province of Vicenza.
What should the public expect? “First of all, my interpretation of some songs faithful to the originals but in an intimate, acoustic key – explains the singer-songwriter from Reggio Emilia – There will only be two of us on stage, two guitars, a piano. Extreme simplicity. I am convinced, in fact, that the songs that have made history are enjoyable in any way, indeed: it is precisely through simplicity that their most authentic value emerges, the melody, the harmonic complexity”. And when asked about his opinion on the legacy of the White Duke, Chimenti has no doubts: “Bowie holds high the banner of change, the ability to never sit back on his laurels, once the finish line has been reached. I have known many artists who ended up reiterating themselves, once they found their own style, thus ending up dying, creatively, little by little. Bowie, on the other hand, always risked everything, putting himself on the line; this is a lesson for the new generations: today more than ever, in fact, there is a need to reinvent ourselves, to return to embracing the concept of transformation”.
The Bowie Bash, conceived by Daniele Pensavalle and organized by the Blackstar association, will take place between Friday 3 and Saturday 4 December, between Bassano del Grappa and Rosà and will consist, in addition to Chimenti's live performance, of the exhibition “The masks of David Bowie” curated by the artist Maria Primolan, the performance of the singer-songwriter Nicoletta Noè with the Giuseppe Bonomo Duo and the conference curated by Flaviano Bosco “Destini crossed”, where will dissect the intricate artistic and human partnership between Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, a triumvirate who, starting from the beginning of the seventies, has rewritten the rules of pop-rock music.
