Marielle Heller's new comedy horror film arrives in theaters on December 6
There used to be a girl on TikTok who kept a running list of all of the bizarre changes the human body could possibly undergo during and after pregnancy. Whenever someone posted about their latest science-defying transformation, the comment section would be filled with people asking: “Where's the girl with the list?” Her services are needed once again as Searchlight Pictures has shared the first trailer for Nightbitcha film in which motherhood turns Amy Adams into a literal dog.
The studio's description of the film is tame: “A woman (Amy Adams) pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her new domesticity takes a surreal turn.” The woman is never named, referred to only as Mother, and she puts her life di lei as an artist on hold to raise her son di lei. Instead of arranging colors on a canvas, she's slipping on the mess of finger paint and spaghetti that her tornado toddler left in his wake of her. When her husband quips, “I would kill to stay home with him every day,” the absence of light in her eyes somehow becomes even emptier.
Then comes the “surreal turn” — in which Adams' character starts growing fur, attracting dogs, and caving into the primal urges that lead her to forget using any utensils and instead just shove her face into plates of food. “I could crush a walnut with my vagina,” she tells a stunned woman in the trailer before barking in her face and chowing down on a burger. Sprinting through the streets on all fours with her tail wagging behind her, she declares: “I am a woman. I am an animal. I am Nightbitch.”
Nightbitch is based on Rachel Yoder's 2021 novel of the same name. It was written and directed by Marielle Heller and also features Scoot McNairy, Arleigh Patrick Snowden, Emmett James Snowden, Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Archana Rajan, and Jessica Harper.
The comedy horror film arrives in theaters on Dec. 6.
