The first stage at the age of 6 in the churchyard, the suicide of the father, the piano bar to support the family, the first record under contract at 16, the epic of MTV as the protagonist and still the dissolute life between wild parties and memorable encounters with great international artists.
He’s a Morgan in the mood to tell and tell himself what he attended Wild moss, the Fedez podcast which, with Luis Sal increasingly distant, is now constantly joined by Davide Marra (the one from the Cerberus podcast). In the last episode with the former leader of Bluvertigo as a guest, a flood of anecdotes and revelations emerged about the behind-the-scenes of the thousand experiences lived by the singer-songwriter.
And already in the intro we start strong: «Let’s go to Hollywood (famous Milanese venue, ed) and they tell me: “There is Asia Argento”. For me it was a must». This is the description of the meeting with what will become her longest-lived companion and with whom she will have her first daughter, Anna Lou. But that does not end here and is reconstructed starting from the victory of the Mtv Europe Music Awards by his Bluvertigo: «That party was mythological. I was out long before I got on that fucking stage. I finally said Dante, wrong, because we’d been drinking backstage all day with Zucchero, the Spice Girls and the Rems. I found myself drunk.”
The memory of the party continues and hilarious and grotesque moments also emerge from other artists: «There was Giorgio Armani pissed off with the Spices, Robbie Williams who ran away from his mother who chased him because he still did it in the toilets». At that moment “in which I lived those situations in a psychedelic way” Morgan admits to the tour manager that he continued to drink, even from other people’s glasses, and the song was born from that circumstance Heaven in My Cocktails (contained in the album Songs of the apartment, ed.). But that’s not all, because later, with the other members of the band, he decides to go out, take the car and head in front of the record company’s offices: «We wanted to take a piss in front of Sony. With a Ford Focus full of vomit we head there and I couldn’t stand up. In fact, they say, I slowly fell backwards on my piss.’ In that state, the other colleagues lifted him up and took him to Hollywood where he met his future partner: «I pretend nothing happened among the photographers and they tell me: ‘There’s Asia Argento’. Where it is, let me see it… for me it was a must. However, they tell me, make out with Grignani». A circumstance which, despite everything, did not make him give up: «In those conditions I could have fought with King Kong. I don’t remember if I saw them together, but the news was that Asia was more out of my mind and she doesn’t remember that I went there. Total oblivion.” And Fedez comments: «Poetry…». But she didn’t end there.
The next day, Morgan recalls that MTV asked him to accompany David Byrne from Malpensa airport to the hotel: «With the same coat (soaked in piss) the same car (full of vomit) I went to get him. When Byrne arrived, he got into the car and rolled down all the windows without saying anything, very elegant.’ An impact that, however, did not shake the American musician too much, who a few hours later will ask to be accompanied to a club by Morgan: «We went back to Hollywood, this time by taxi. He sits on the chair and stays four hours to observe what happens. Then I took him back to the hotel, continuing to do things that can’t be said, but from there a great friendship was born between Byrne and me. When I go to New York I always call him. Once he came to Italy – he continued – and that evening Asia and I had fucked up, between scratches and punches, and I took last year’s jacket, I went out to get lost in the world, I continued along the Forlanini road up to Linate on foot and in that moment I wrote that piece (Somewhere else, ed.). I enjoyed the David Byrne concert, I drank, I smoked four cannons and when I returned Asia was gone, she was gone forever».
During the episode of the podcast, which lasts over an hour, the singer-songwriter then retraced his existence from the beginning. From not being a “son of art” to the relationship with his mother “who has a problematic personality”, up to the suicide of his father who was “a chronically unhappy person. He did things he didn’t want to do in life and I’ve never seen him happy. However, then I saw some home movies from the 60s in Super8, and I saw a happy man. So much so that I said to my mother: “Who is he? This who is he? ”». A painful memory that the musician has reconstructed in detail, even of the most extreme gesture: «My father was extremely affectionate. Lately, it felt like a horror movie. He had brought a black cape inside the house. He asked me for money, because I was a piano bar. He had financial problems. He brought me a photographic roll with one hundred thousand lire inside: “So you won’t be able to say that I didn’t give them back to you”. Then he greeted me from the window… I struggled to support my mother and sister. When someone treats me badly (and remembers the interview with the monthly Max that would have ruined his reputation, when he admitted: «I use it as an antidepressant», referring to cocaine, ed), my balls are spinning because they don’t know what I did to be where I am today. I don’t want my fame to precede me, I want to be tested and prove who I am.”
