They waited for the right moment, without getting caught by the instinct that they want to publish one album after another: let's talk about the Adamantis, an American band that we had met with a good debut in 2020, entitled “Far Flung Realm”. Except for an EP, “The Daemon's Strain”, published in 2022, the group was a little out of the radar, but now here they are back with a new full-length, “Reforged”, which reappears of the group ready to consolidate your sound between the US-Power and the Classic Heavy, without evident news even if the impact of these new compositions, a couple of which The six minutes of duration, vira more on more marked epic sounds, through structured songs according to more solid and powerful patterns.
Already the departure with “Ride for Ruin” – where the guitarist Jeff Loomis (Nevemore, ex Arch Enemy) also appears as a guest with a fulminating solo – highlights always rather massive riffs, on which you can then relax the vocal lines sung by the bravo Jeff Stark with his full and vigorous uvula, capable of launching on melodies yes linear but effective in conquering listening after listening after listening listening I listen; A direct departure that could remember something of the teutonic brainstorm, even if the German Act can boast a pinch of more power.
In general, the songs always maintain a rather gritty line without disdaining some (rare) thrash passage, hidden within compositions, however, of clear and predominant Heavy mold, in which naturally guitars give their constant contribution. The songs can certainly not be defined as immediate: it will be for the instrumental part, where ours try to build fairly intricate passages with some changes of time, it will be for the vocal lines that are not exactly direct, but certainly these pieces grow slowly with the going of the listening.
Perhaps something more could be done on Stark's song, not so much on his individual performance – which shows how the singer possesses a good vocal range even getting on high notes, still maintaining a full -bodied voice – but precisely on the impact of the refrains and some passages, where the band would have the opportunity to let go of more engaging openings.
It is probably when the Adamantis dive on more epic and battle sounds that manage to give their best: both on the more stubborn side, with the mighty and gritty title-track, which runs on the double case driven by the druming of Bravo Evgen Gromovoy and soon becomes one of the most determined and decisive moments of listening, both through more sought after sounds, which we find in the exciting sounds in the exciting sounds. Tetre and progressive-daom atmospheres of “The Sailor on the Seas of Fate” and then on the exhilarating “Gates of Miklagard” ride, full of many ideas between softer passages and a few more rocky times.
With themes related to authors such as Jrr Tolkien, Michael Moorcock and Andrzej Sapkowski, and an epic and intense sound, thanks to “Reforged” Adamantis confirms bands of absolute interest within the Epic-Heavy Metal scene, even if he still pervades that feeling that there would be potential for a further step forward. Will it be for the next album?
