Gazelle Thenthe review of the new album.
Flavio Brown Pardini He is a 35 -year -old man born in Rome who has experienced, like all of us, the infinite facets of human emotions, especially those related to love.
Gazellehis alter ego, was born with the aim, indeed the mission, to put these emotions in line and tell them to people. It condenses, from the now distant 2016, the beautiful and ugly moments of a relationship sometimes with vivid images, easily recreational in the mind of its listener, sometimes through metaphors always contextualized.
As said, a mission. And not one of those at term, because there is no expiration date when it comes to human relationships and what they can create as a natural consequence.
In 2017 the goal was to recreate that 'Superbing'classic of relationships when they are born and when they die. Today, after almost ten years, it appears clear that that mission is more alive than ever but with that extra touch of maturity and necessary.
Gazzelle, then, the review
Then he already hides in the name everything he needs. A new album but linked to the most recent Italian independent tradition but also that evergreen annoyance of the singer -songwriter to give and be applied to the labels.
In the year of the Italian musical revolution, that 2017 of which he himself talks in one of the 11 songs contained in this new album, Gazzelle was among the closes. Nobody, or almost, after him he was able to savor the pleasure of being 'winning' in the world of those who, for the populace, were unknown, poor and crazy almost: the so -called loser.
There was already Calcutta, there was Frah Quintale, there was Coez and also Tommaso Paradiso with his Thegiornalists. Gazzelle completed, together with a few other names, this picture that seems almost familiar for a millennial, today.
The maturity album could not fail to start again and lay their bases, textual and musical, on that reassuring family for the ears and life of many.
Then It was born with the aim of making you reset that world made of finished but never forgotten loves, indeed remembered with that lucid nostalgia without regrets (Stamme Well). There is also space for the awareness of a 35 year old without sentimental certainties but with the full awareness of not wanting a life made of marriage, children, stability that very often translates into boredom (The My Friend Yes Wife), or still find the strength to start again with a new lonely life by occasionally asking questions about the past. That classic 'what if …' when you try to cling to something (Not The I knew).
Then It is a path, a huge path, which is perfectly depicted by the metaphor of the ant cover. Ants build roads with solid and lasting bases but, to do it, they need time. A lot of time.
Gazelle It is that ant that has already built its foundations and that seems fully aware of everything he has lived.
A look at the past with roots in the present
An album that, in other contexts and historical periods, would not have had rivals and perhaps this is precisely the flaw for an external ear: Then It seems too blocked over time.
The sounds, the way of writing, musical guides such as for example the wedding march in My friend gets marriedthey were built to follow that musical model son of almost a decade ago.
At the time there was true desire to discover this world, to change the previous one and rare it on the ground to start the reconstruction work that, today, we call itpop.
Today we feel the same desire and feeling, with Italian music put to the tightening from Spotifyfrom the talents that appeared in post-produce and not very true or even, even more, from the influence that the numbers that the numbers died on all social networks and streaming platforms have had, have and will have on the artists.
Then It is, of course, the first album of 2025 to sink the roots in feelings but it is not a motionless album. It is not one of those albums that jumps back in time and remains there, playing only with nostalgia. Then It is also reflection on the direction of Italian music, it is a continuous ping pong between past, present and, who knows, future.
Many have recently returned with songs linked to this world, not only Gazelle. Coez, Frah Quintale, Lightning and many others have placed (again?) The foundations to face a new change? We will see but one thing is certain: the then is not dead.
