The former president will spend the night at the hospital, according to CNN
Bill Clinton is in the hospital. On Monday, a spokesperson for the former president confirmed that Clinton had been admitted to the hospital for “testing and observation” after developing a fever, but assured CNN that he is “fine.”
“President Clinton was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital this afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever,” Angel Ureña, deputy chief of staff to Clinton, wrote on X. “He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.”
According to CNN, Clinton was at home in Washington when he developed a fever and was taken to MedStar Georgetown. He’ll spend the night at the hospital, an aide for Clinton told the outlet. The former president is “awake and urgent,” according to the aide, with a separate Clinton associate telling CNN that the trip to the hospital was “not urgent or dire by any means.”
Clinton was last publicly admitted to the hospital in 2021 after he developed a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream. He spent six days in the hospital at the time. He has also suffered from heart issues throughout his life. In 2004, at 58, he had quadruple bypass surgery for signs of extensive heart disease, and in 2010, he had stents implanted in his coronary artery. He also experienced a partially collapsed lung in 2005.
Clinton has been quite active over the last few months as he joined Vice President Kamala Harris on the campaign trail during her run for president. He has also given numerous interviews and spoken at public events in the last few weeks to promote his latest book, Citizen: My Life After the White House.
