In a recent interview for Guitar WorldTom Morello expressed his opinion on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, highlighting a problem.
The guitarist, who attended Rage Against The Machine's induction ceremony last year, explained: «The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame shouldn't be open just for rock bands, that's not the reason it exists». Morello continues: «Public Enemy are more rock'n'roll than 95% of the hair metal bands who have ever picked up an instrument, don't you think?».
«Here we are talking about a certain music with a spirit, a sort of youthful spirit», the guitarist elaborated further. «Rock'n'roll should be understood here in a very very broad sense. I think there is room for many other genres.”
In previous years, the Hall of Fame itself clarified its criteria for admission: «Born from the collision of rhythm and blues, country and gospel, rock'n'roll is something inclusive and constantly evolving» whose objective remains « celebrate the sound of youth cultures and honor the artists whose music continues to connect us.”
