51 years after its release, Elton John has released a new video for his Christmas song Step Into Christmas. With an unprecedented presence.
The song was already accompanied by a vintage video in which John played the piece with his band in the studio. The new video is a fake “behind the scenes” which ironically recounts the production's efforts to make the atmosphere of the set Christmassy. The part of Elton John is played by Cara Delevingne (the song is the original one).
“I saw her at Glastonbury last summer, we said how much we'd love to work together if the right idea ever came along,” John said. «It's fun to spend time with her, we share the same thing just for self-irony. The perfect opportunity came when someone suggested the idea of him playing me in a retelling of the video of Step Into Christmas from 1973. Thank goodness Cara also thought so and in fact the result is fantastic.”
“Elton has always been an idol of mine, to say that his music has had a profound effect on me is an understatement,” says Delevingne. «I would like to be able to pretend to be Elton every day. I hope that Elton can one day return the favor and agree to play me in my biopic which has yet to be conceived, written, pitched and financed. Fingers crossed.”
Elton John's other little Christmas gift to his fans is the news that new music is coming: the source of inspiration, he told the Late Show by Stephen Colbert, never dried up.
