NME’s latest stars of The Cover, Lambrini Girls, have compiled an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.
The Brighton punk band are on this week’s (December 16) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Lambrini Girls here, written by Rishi Shah and featuring photography by Joseph Bishop.
To accompany The Cover, Lambrini Girls have compiled an exclusive playlist, choosing to use the opportunity to shine a light on their local Brighton scene. ‘Best Of Brighton’ features tracks from the likes of Snayx, Ellis-D, The Wytches, Murmur and Bleach Lab. In The Cover, Lambrini Girls discuss their journey so far and the outspoken nature that has seen them stand up as allies for the LGBTQ+ community, women facing sexual abuse, Palestine and more. “Politics has always been a part of all of my friendships,” Lilly Macieira explains. “Women tend to be a little bit more involved due to necessity… I have a really strong sense of justice – I’ve always got riled up about things and have been confused as to why other people aren’t.”
Elsewhere, the band discuss their debut album, ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’, which arrives on January 10, wanting to take their message to the mainstream, and filling their politically-charged songs with humour. “When you grow up with a broken nose and weird straw hair, and no one wants to talk to you, you have to become really funny in order to make any friends,” jokes Phoebe Lunny. “I gained a few friends, and then I got really fucking hot. Now I’m hot and funny – job done!”
