Miley Cyrus is working on a visual concept album inspired by The Wall by Pink Floyd. He said this during an interview published yesterday by Harper's Bazaar.
He's been working on it for six, seven months with producer Shawn Everett. The project (provisional title: Something Beautiful) will have a very strong “visual” part. Among the various references cited by the pop star are the 2018 film with Nicolas Cag Mandywhich involved director Panos Cosmatos, and Pink Floyd's rock opera The Wallthe double released in 1979, represented by the group in the two-year period 1980-81 in a spectacular show, transformed into a 1982 film by Alan Parker.
«It is inspired by The Wallsays Cyrus of his album, explaining that he saw Parker's film when he was a teenager. To go there, he and his brother rented a limousine, smoked weed, dressed in 70s-style fur coats. «We really identified with it, I feel an attachment to it. My idea was to do it The Wallbut with a better wardrobe, with more glamor and pop culture.”
According to Cosmatos, «the album is the most experimental of those he has made, but it is in a pop way». For Cyrus, the atmosphere of the album is “mesmerizing and glamorous”. The concept, he adds, «is the attempt to cure a sick culture through music. I would like to be a kind of human psychedelic substance for people. I don't care if someone wants to be like me, imitate me or be inspired by me. I want to make the frequencies of your bodies vibrate on another level.”
On the record, it is the visual part that influences the sound and not vice versa. «The important thing is that all the songs have this healing sound property. They may talk about destruction, broken hearts or death, but they are presented in a way that is beautiful, because the worst moments of life have something beautiful about them. It's the shading, the charcoal, the shading. There is no painting without points of light and contrasts.”
