The dazzling reverberation of silence envelops the six songs of the collaboration called Yugen born between the two Damāvands Alessandro Ciccarelli and Gianluca Ceccarini, together with the Japanese trumpeter Tetsuroh Konishi. The CD cover alone is worth the price of the ticket. For those who are still interested in understanding a musical project also from the forms of the supports in which it is presented. Or from the meaning behind the names that are chosen: behind that of “Yugen” there is a Universe hidden.
Music speaks a language of its own, made up of drone and improvisation. The timbres of the instruments swell to cover the light and reveal a labyrinth of inscrutable shadows. “Like Fog And Sun”, as the first song in the setlist says: subsonic bass that comes to life thanks to percussion worthy of a Stephan Micus album and flutes from another dimension. At times it seems like the fifth world prophesied by Michael Stearns, but without the mystical charge of the synthesizers space-ambient. Nine minutes that leave you breathless. And it's just the beginning.
