The march of this all-round Danish artist, Ynleborgaz, and his always interesting Angantyr project continues inexorably: once again the black metal proposed on this album is pure and evocative, with a touch of pathos given by arcane melodies.
With the new “Indsigt” we have reached the milestone of seven albums in almost twenty-five years and, although the band has always remained relegated to the underground environment, over the years Angantyr have managed to create a large group of admirers around them.
The Danish black metal scene is not very large, but it is well represented by some valid bands such as Afsky and Nortt (both solo projects), and certainly the one we are talking about is among the best local bands: for years now that their trademark is recognizable and above all has become synonymous with quality, let's say that you can go quite blind when a new Ynleborgaz creation comes out.
Maybe we will never see a masterpiece released under the Angantyr brand, but their discography can certainly have a place in the homes of fans of the genre. The title of the new album, translated from Danish, means 'intuition, like the one had by the talent scout Northern Silence Prod. in signing such a solid musical project.
“Indsigt” begins with an almost perfect song: “De Dødes Valg”, in which black metal is traditional, which could appeal to fans of Taake or Judas Iscariot, with great pathos thanks also to a riffing that is at times melancholy melodic; perhaps it is the best song of the entire release, together with the subsequent “Værst Jeg Vælger” where, however, the main riffing can very vaguely recall that of Behexen's “Night Of The Blasphemy” (at the time of the masterpiece “Rituale Satanum”) , although it seems more dilated and of a lower pitch than that of the Finnish group.
Pindaric parallels aside, Angantyr hit the target again this time and offer us another example of good music and good genuine black metal, without many frills and in line with the path taken so far by the Ynleborgaz band. Compared to its predecessor “Ulykke”, the new album has a much more enveloping mood, with the guitars acquiring greater depth, decidedly more scratchy and cold.
“Indsigt” should therefore be understood as the definitive seal that certifies the validity of this one-man band.
