Last week Peter Frampton and Megadeth canceled their respective concerts at the same venue in Richmond, Virginia (Virginia Credit Union Live). The band's was scheduled for September 15th, the guitarist's for the 17th.
A few days later, during a concert in Philadelphia, Frampton said it was possible that the show was canceled because of the damage to the stage caused by Megadeth's crew. “I'm not blaming them, maybe it was another band, but it looks like that's what happened. Sorry, Megadeth, but I had to blow the whistle.”
The band responded yesterday. “Frampton was reportedly not properly informed about our concert cancellation,” Dave Mustaine said. “It was a security issue. It’s disappointing when someone you admire talks badly about you.”
According to the band, the Richmond show was canceled before soundcheck when a Megadeth crew member discovered pre-existing damage to the structure he was installing lights on. “It was unsafe to set up the equipment and have the band on stage, with the risk that the structure would not support the weight of the lights and PA and would collapse on the musicians, crew and audience, resulting in deaths and injuries,” Mustaine's band said in a statement. “Therefore, Megadeth, the local promoter, the venue and booking agents they had no choice but to cancel the concert.”
