Mercury Studios, the audio-video division of Universal Music Group, announces the release DVD+Blu-ray of the documentary film Have You Got It Yet?, a compelling dive into the life and genius of Syd Barrettthe rough diamond of the Pink Floyd. The film will also be available on Digital and On Demand.
Directed by the award-winning director Roddy Bogawa and by the late and acclaimed designer Storm Thorgerson (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Black Sabbath…) and produced by Orian Williams (England Is Mine, Creation Stories, Control), the feature received a warm reception for its sincere look at prismatic character and artistry of one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett. Visionaries and precursors of prog rock and British psychedelic music, Pink Floyd have left a monolithic legacy in the history of music and culture. Syd, who came up with the group's name, combining the names of two obscure bluesmen – Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, played a crucial role in sparking that story, only to leave the group before its worldwide success.
Released in cinemas around the world last summer, Have You Got It Yet? achieved extraordinary critical and public success. In the film there are interviews with the other members of the band David Gilmour, Nick Mason And Roger Waters that reveal the extraordinary impact of Barrett about the group and the film also includes an interview with Syd's sister, Rosemary Breen. Narrated by the actor Jason Isaacsthe film also features the original band's managers Peter Jenner And Andrew Kingas well as interventions by Pete Townshend of the Who and Graham Coxon by Blur.
In addition to the feature film, the DVD+Blu-ray version includes numerous bonus contents. Two touching live performances by “Arnold Layne”: the first presents David Gilmour and David Bowie (originally published in Remember That Night Live At The Royal Albert Hall by David Gilmour in 2007). The second is a performance taken from The Madcap's Last Laugh (also 2007), a Syd Barrett tribute concert featuring David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright in their final performance as Pink Floyd.
The DVD+Blu-ray includes an interview with Bogawawho also comments on the entire film together with Rupert Truman And Julius Beltrame. Further exploring his creative works, the set also features a critique of Barrett's paintings and spoken word of Barrett's lyrics recited by the comedian Noel Fielding (“Dark Globe”), by the poet Rob Fitterman (“Rats”) and the actor Gerard Bell (“Lucifer Sam”). The packaging, designed by StormStudios, is completed with an exclusive poster of Have You Got It Yet? poster, also designed by Thorgerson's graphic studio.
Syd Barrett hey Pink Floyd they crystallized a cultural moment where anything seemed possible but where that freedom could come at a price. Was Syd just another drug victim? Or was she suffering from an undiagnosed mental condition? Or did she hate the attention and fame just as her fun was turning into a job? While there are no clear answers, everyone who knew Syd closely has a feeling that something went terribly wrong. Have You Got it Yet? is a chronicle and mosaic of Barrett's creative and destructive impulses, his captivating presence and absence – a portrait of the complex puzzle that was his life.
