“Jealousy 30th BDay – Let's Celebrate Tour!” – The Club Tour
THE Diverts to Cubathe well-known Florentine band symbol of Italian funky, performed last night at the Viper in Florence to celebrate the thirties since the release of “Jealousy”, the song with which they achieved success in the early nineties.
The Dirotta concert on Cuba at the Viper in Florence
With their unique and unmistakable sound they inaugurated in 1994 the most acid jazz and funk period that Italy has ever had.
30 years have passed since then and Dirotta su Cuba, despite vicissitudes, separations and line up changes, are still active.
The band performed last night at the Viper with a renewed line up of five musicians and, as always at the microphone, the one and only Simona Bencini, historical voice of the band, who held the stage as only a few artists can do.
During the concert, Simona often spoke to the audience, telling us how these thirty years have been, greeting friends and colleagues present in the audience and reiterating how bringing Dirotta's music back to Cuba live has now become a mission for her and that these ten years of absence from the Florentine stages have made themselves felt. Simona couldn't wait to return to perform in her hometown.
Among the audience were also many of the musicians who have been part of the group over the years and for the grand finale Rossano Gentili, the founder of Dirotta Su Cuba, returned to the keyboards to once again play the melody of “Jealousy”.
“Jealousy”'s Birthday
Last night at the Viper, more than a concert, there was a real birthday party with a band excited and happy to celebrate with their lifelong fans and those who contributed to their long professional journey and to the achievement of this goal.
Like any self-respecting birthday party, once the concert was over, a cake was brought onto the stage, complete with candles to blow out, the classic accompanying song sung by all those present at the Viper and lots of golden confetti to celebrate the 30th years since the release of Gelosia and the band's return to activity.
