The “About Damn Time” singer was accused of sexual harassment and a toxic workplace in a lawsuit filed by former backup dancers last year
Lizzo, who faces allegations of sexual harassment and hostile workplace environment, took to social media to seemingly address the backlash she’s since faced from industry peers and online. In her post, the Special singer known for her uplifting, self-love anthems, declared: “I QUIT.”
“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it,” wrote Lizzo in an Instagram post shared on Friday evening. “But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it,” she continued, adding, “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”
The Grammy winner ended her message with: “I didn’t sign up for this shit — I QUIT”
In August last year, three of Lizzo’s former dancers filed a lawsuit against the singer, accusing her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment stemming from incidents that allegedly took place beginning in 2021 and through 2023.
The following September, another former Lizzo employee filed a lawsuit against her, accusing the artist and her team of racial and sexual harassment, disability discrimination, illegal retaliatory termination, and assault.
Lizzo has previously denied all accusations, responding in part in a statement, “I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days. There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it feels like to be body shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.
