“It’s your bestie, Miss-Miss Westie,” North West sings in a new clip that her father, Kanye, posted to his Instagram. “Just tryna bless me,” she continues, “just bless me.” She sings the words as she gets her hair braided in the video for Kanye’s new song, “Talking / Once Again,” which also features Ty Dolla $ign and will appear on his upcoming Vultures album.
Kanye’s contributions to the track seem minimal, other than repeating the line, “Once again the clouds are gathering to release what they held in” at the end. In the video, he quietly gazes outward while holding her on his shoulders. It’s Ty who raps about being a girl dad with the verses: “How much to stop the car from speeding? They might try to slow down/How much to stop my daughter from growing? I just can’t take it now.” In the clip, Ty gazes lovingly at his daughter, Jailynn Crystal, too.
“North needs to drop her album already,” Diplo commented on the Instagram Reel.
The Vultures album, attributed to ¥$ — a portmanteau of Ye and $ — will come out in waves, if West (never the most reliable source for Kanye info) is to be believed, with the first volume arriving Friday. Subsequent volumes could come out March 8 and April 5.
The album arrives after months of controversy for West, who has come under fire for making antisemitic remarks. He has since apologized for his statements. “It was not my intention to offend or demean, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused,” he wrote, in Hebrew, on Instagram last year. “I am committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future. Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity.”
West commented subtextually on how the world has reacted to his antisemitism in a since-deleted Instagram post. “We just sold out United Center in seven minutes, and I just want to express to everybody out there to see if there’s anyone that can help with this,” West said. “It’s the only arena that I had access to in the past year. And when I call, people say there’s no avails for me, and you know why that is. So if there’s anybody out there that can help with this, please.”
