Ashley Park, the actress known best for Emily in Paris, Joy Ride, and Beef, revealed on Instagram Friday that she is recovering in a hospital from septic shock.
Last month, Park contracted tonsilitis, which “spiraled into critical septic shock,” she wrote in the post, next to photos and video of her in the hospital with her husband, actor Paul Forman (also of Emily in Paris), taking care of her. The sepsis went on to infect “several” of Park’s organs. Nevertheless, she wrote that her health has improved.
“I hesitated to share what’s been happening as I’m still in the throes of recovery,” she wrote, “but I now know I’m safely on the other side of the worst.”
In the post, she thanked Forman “for being unconditionally by my side” throughout the ordeal. They were traveling at the time of the infection. She wrote that her husband “held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know.” (She didn’t reveal where they were exactly at the time her condition turned critical, but posts from just before New Year’s were tagged in Phuket, Thailand.)
She also thanked the doctors and medical staff who looked after her, singling out the team from Joali Being — a beach resort described on its Instagram page as “the first wellbeing island of its kind in the Maldives” — for sticking with her and helping with translation. “Infinite thanks to my personal team of heroes at home who were on calls with insurance, Paul, my parents, and doctors at all hours (you know who you are),” she wrote.
Lily Collins, who plays Emily in Emily in Paris, commented on the post with words of support for Park. “I can hardly look at these without crying,” she wrote. “I love you, sister, and I’m forever grateful you’re on the other side of this and for [Paul] for your incredibly huge heart and for being there every step of the way.”
The videos in the post show Forman making a heart at Park with his fingers and Forman tying her hair back for her. “So good,” she said in gratitude.
