The SNL duo presented the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special
Twenty years after they first appeared on Weekend Update together on Saturday Night Live, beloved alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned to their desk at the 2023 Emmy Awards.
Weekend Update’s first female duo took the stage to present the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special — but not before cracking a few jokes in their signature news style. “We’ve reached the stage in life where we’ll only present awards sitting down,” Fey joked.
They went through each nominee making playful comments, like calling the Oscars “The only show that’s longer than when they aired Titanic with commercials on TBS” and Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, saying “The concert so good it got us all pregnant.”
Last year, Fey and Poehler announced they were going on a live tour together titled the “Restless Leg Tour.” Since SNL, Fey and Poehler have shared the screen in the comedy films Mean Girls, Baby Mama, Sisters, and Wine Country. They’ve also each led their own TV sitcoms — Fey’s 30 Rock and Poehler in Parks and Recreation. Fey recently reprised her role as Ms. Norbury in the new edition of Mean Girls.
