Awards ceremony kicks off with tribute to classic television
Travis Barker ushered in the 2024 Emmys by drumming to Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”
The 75th awards ceremony kicked off with host Anthony Anderson paying tribute to classic television show history. While sitting at a grand piano in a Mr. Rogers-esque living room, he welcomed a Compton, California chorus onstage (explaining there was a white member because Kevin Costner was born there) before they broke out into a medley of iconic TV themes, including Good Times to The Facts of Life.
The tribute then segued into Phil Collins’ 1981 hit, with the camera panning to Barker on drums. Check it out below.
The Emmys was originally scheduled to take place on September 18, but was ultimately postponed due to the writer’s strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike. Succession, The Last of Us, and Ted Lasso led this year’s nominees.
