The Winter Olympics may have just officially started on Friday, but there has been plenty of action already — and there's still a lot to look forward to. Team USA clinched gold in the figure skating team event thanks to a dominant performance by Ilia Malinin, who performed several quadruple jumps and a backflip.

Malinin has earned the nickname “Quad God” for his ability to land a quadruple axel, a jump involving four-and-a-half revolutions. The nickname is well earned, as Malinin is still the only figure skater to have completed a quad axel in competition. However, Malinin has yet to perform the infamous jump at the Olympics.
Still, his routine had no shortage of daring feats, including a stunning backflip — a move that was controversially banned for many years. Malinin is still expected to perform the quad axel, and he has two events remaining: the short program and the free skate.
When Is Ilia Malinin Skating Next?
The Quad God has two events in the books, including the team event short program on Feb. 7 and the free skate on Feb. 8. He now has two individual men's events to go, including the short program and the free skate. The cumulative scores determine the winner, with the medal ceremony following the free skate.
Milan marks the first Olympics for the 21-year-old Malinin; despite being a rising star at the time, he was not selected for the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
The short program starts on Feb. 10 at 12:30 pm ET, while the free skate event starts on Feb. 13 at 3 pm ET.
