The documentary Paul McCartney: Man on the Run captures Paul's transformative decade following the breakup of the Beatles and the rise of his new band Wings. Through extraordinary archive images, Linda McCartney's exceptional photographs, interviews with Paul, Linda, Mary And Stella McCartneyseveral members of the band Wings, Sean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde and others, the film examines this period with particular care, offering the viewer detailed insight.
Speaking about his approach to the film and the soundtrack, the director Morgan Neville he said:
“When we talk about the greatest artists of the '70s, the list rarely includes Paul McCartney. Not because he wasn't great – he was undoubtedly one of the most important musicians of the decade – but because of what he had already done. Paul had been in the biggest band in the world, which in turn had created its own gravitational force.
In my film, Man on the Run, I wanted to look at Paul's incredible run from that long shadow of the Beatles.
It was a trip full of unlikely choices: a van tour! Bruce McMouse! Nigeria! Thrillington! An Hymn to Scotland! But look together, the madness of those choices really started to seem smart. How else could one deal with the burden of expectations of such magnitude other than by doing the unexpected?

I also saw that over the decade, Paul stopped running from something and started running towards something else – his voice, his family, his life. This was the story of someone finding themselves.
This soundtrack is a snapshot of that journey told through his music. Each of these songs is the result of a creative impulse of who Paul was at that time. It was through song that Paul spoke, not only to the world, but also to himself. We are lucky enough to be able to hear all of this.”
