On the occasion of the release of “Paul McCartney: Man On The Run”, the new documentary by Morgan Neville, the official soundtrack “Man On The Run – Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack” also arrives, designed as a direct complement to the film story dedicated to the creative rebirth of Paul McCartney after the end of the Beatles.
“We have achieved what seemed like an impossible dream”, commented McCartney, summarizing the spirit of a project that looks at the Seventies as a decade of artistic, family and personal reconstruction.
The soundtrack collects twelve songs taken from the catalog of Paul McCartney and Wings, alternating classics, hits and rare materials. It's a compact but telling snapshot of his output in the post-Beatles period. Among the most relevant contents are “Arrow Through Me (Rough Mix)”, an unreleased version from the 1979 “Back To The Egg” sessions, and “Live And Let Die (Rockshow)”, taken from the 1980 concert film “Rockshow”, both available as an exclusive preview on Amazon Music. Added to these is a third unreleased song, “Gotta Sing Gotta Dance”, originally included in “The James Paul McCartney TV Special” of 1973.
Here is the trailer for the documentary “Paul McCartney: Man On The Run”.
Both the documentary and the album will be released on February 27th. “Man On The Run – Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack” will be released in multiple formats: limited edition “New York Taxi Yellow” colored vinyl, pressed at Jack White's Third Man Pressing Plant, 180 gram black vinyl, CD and digital. All vinyl editions will also include a dedicated poster.
The creative direction of the graphics was followed directly by McCartney together with Aubrey “Po” Powell of Hipgnosis, the historic studio with which Paul collaborated on eight Wings albums, including “Band On The Run”, “Venus And Mars”, “Wings Over America”, “Wings Greatest” and the 2025 anthology “Wings”. The illustrations are signed by Peter Curzon of Storm Studios.
The documentary
“Paul McCartney: Man On The Run” chronicles the transformative decade that followed the breakup of the Beatles and the rise of Wings. Through archival images, photographs of Linda McCartney and interviews with Paul, Linda, Mary and Stella McCartney, as well as band members Sean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde and others, the film carefully reconstructs a period often simplified by historical narrative. Morgan Neville explains the meaning of the project: “When we talk about the great artists of the Seventies, Paul McCartney is rarely mentioned. Not because he wasn't central, but because the weight of what he had already done with the Beatles continued to define him. With 'Man On The Run' I wanted to observe his journey out of that shadow. It was a journey made of unlikely choices: van tours, Bruce McMouse, Nigeria, Thrillington, a hymn to Scotland. Considered together, those decisions reveal a precise logic. It was the only way to face such overwhelming expectations. During that decade Paul stopped running away from something and started moving towards something else: his voice, his family, his life.
Where to see it
The documentary is produced by Tremolo in collaboration with MPL Communications and Polygram Entertainment and will be available on Prime Video from February 27 in over 240 countries. Producers include Morgan Neville, Chloe Simmons and Meghan Walsh for Tremolo, Scott Rodger and Ben Chappell for MPL, Michele Anthony and David Blackman for Polygram Entertainment. Executive producers include Paul McCartney and Caitrin Rogers. McCartney and Neville are also executive producers of the soundtrack.
The film represents the last piece of the recent celebrations dedicated to Wings. In 2025 the volume “Wings: The Story Of A Band On The Run” was released, followed by the collection “Wings”, personally edited by McCartney. In the same period, the fiftieth anniversary of “Venus And Mars” was celebrated, now available in a half speed edition and, for the first time, in Dolby Atmos. All accompanied by the “Paul's Got Back” tour, which touched 18 cities in the United States and Canada.
